They are Truly Local and Fresh

Did you know that 80% of flowers sold in the United States and Canada are not grown in North America? That means 80% of the flowers you see in arrangements, or in the grocery store, are most likely sprayed with pesticides, dipped in fungicides, and shipped hundreds or thousands of miles to sit on your dining room table.

When you see a bouquet of flowers, what is the one act you will most likely follow after admiring their beauty? You smell them! Not only are the workers in other countries most likely being exposed and subjected to these pesticides, many of which are illegal in the United States, but we are subjecting ourselves and our families to the same exposure.

They are Unique

There are several varieties of flowers that we grow here on the farm, that you may not be able to find in the grocery store or at the wholesaler. For instance, Zinnias. They are a beautiful, round, colorful focal flower that does not ship well. Thankfully, we grow multiple varieties and colors of this very prolific cut flower.

They are Responsibly Grown

As mentioned before, most flowers sold in the US have been sprayed with a pesticide or fungicide. Our flowers are not sprayed with synthetic pesticides. We cannot legally state that we are an Organic farm, but we can relay to you that we use natural and organic practices. It is very important to Meadow Hills Flower Company (MHFC), that we encourage natural wildlife to keep a balance of the good and bad bugs, among other issues on the farm. We strive to encourage important biodiversity, soil health, and water conservation.

They Smell Better

Many commodity-type flowers have been bred and hybridized to fit into a box, often times losing their natural scent in the process. Locally-grown flowers are often produced in greater varieties, providing a wide range of colors, forms, and fragrance.

Supporting the Local Economy

Buying Locally-Grown fresh cut flowers supports our local economy by providing employment and valuable agricultural experience to many.

Lastly, They Make You Feel Better!

Flowers hold long standing memories for many people. Flowers reduce stress and improve mood. They tell a story, and you are part of it!
