How to care for your Blooms.
When you receive your beautiful fresh blooms from our farm, they have been cut at the appropriate times and conditioned in fresh water. While being arranged, each stem is cut at an angle to increase the amount of water they take in, which increases vase life. There are a few exceptions to this rule, such as Daffodils that release a sap that can be detrimental to other blooms if they are not conditioned appropriately. Traditionally flowers in grocery stores and traditional florists are kept in the cooler. It is true that cooling temperatures are beneficial for most flowers in “holding” them, so that they will open up for you at home. Here at our farm, we utilize a refrigerator for some flowers, but not all. We grow Zinnias and Basil to use in our Bouquets along with other species of plants that do not like the cooler. Because of this, we do not recommend placing our Bouquets in the fridge. The only exception is during Spring, when we are only using flowers and elements that can hold up in the fridge.
Your flowers are designed and placed into a jar that has the correct ratio of water to Chrysal flower food. For best results, you can take each stem and cut 1/4 inch at an angle and replace the water with fresh water every day, or at most, every other day. On our Bouquets our tag says to add water everyday as needed. The main reason we do not give the advice to cut each stem and replace with fresh water, is because our Bouquets are designed and arranged with much gentleness, care, and experience. We do not want you to disassemble your Bouquets only to not have them look as when you first brought them home.
If you feel comfortable removing the stems to make fresh cuts and replacing the water daily, that would really be ideal for the longest vase life. If you want to just enjoy your flowers in their arrangement, then just add water as needed!
